Important Notice
As a low-barrier shelter, we serve diverse populations, including individuals coping with trauma, mental health challenges, addiction, and behavioral issues. This means you may encounter distressing sights, sounds, and odors, as well as instances of inappropriate behavior between guests or towards staff and volunteers. While we prioritize safety and do everything possible to maintain a secure environment, it's crucial to acknowledge that the shelter can be unpredictable, and we cannot guarantee immunity from physical or emotional harm. You may witness guests in distress and may encounter inappropriate or unkind remarks directed towards others and to yourself.
Volunteers must be aged 18 or older to participate in opportunities at this location.

Parking: The DI has very limited parking stalls at our main shelter location (1 Dermot Baldwin Way SE). Volunteers may park in these stalls at their own risk. The DI will not be responsible for any damage or theft to the vehicles or its contents.
How to get in: Please enter the building through the doors on the north side of the building. Please utilize the red buzzer button to notify our security team that you are here to volunteer.
Dress Code: Volunteers must wear appropriate attire for their role. Proper clothing is essential for personal safety. When working in the Shelter, rubber-soled, non-slip. closed-toed shoes. No sandals.
We ask that your shoulders, knees, legs and abdomen are completely covered.
Pants that cover the entire leg to the ankle. No ripped jeans, no shorts, skirts, or short dresses above the knees, no sleeveless shirts.
No T Shirts, hoodies etc. with slogans which might be deemed offensive.
Cameras: Please refrain from any use of your phone while around any shelter guests or staff. If you want to show off your team in a volunteer-only area, please do! And be sure to tag us @CalgaryDropIn
