Recovery Care Volunteer
You Are Worth Recovery: Volunteer with Purpose in Recovery Care
At the Calgary Drop-In Centre, we believe that everyone deserves dignity, support, and the opportunity to heal. As a Recovery Care Volunteer, you’ll be part of a recovery-oriented team that fosters hope and connection for individuals navigating early recovery from substance use.
Why This Role Matters
Working alongside our Health & Recovery staff, you’ll help create a calm, welcoming space for individuals in our Withdrawal Management and Recovery Transition programs. These programs support clients at vulnerable stages in their recovery journeys, and your presence can make a powerful difference.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Welcoming and Guiding Clients: Help new and current clients get where they need to go—whether it’s escorting them to and from the intake room, program space, clinic, or other areas of the building.
- Creating Connection: Spend time with clients in shared spaces—offering conversation, kindness, or a friendly game.
- Supporting Group Activities: Assist staff with setting up wellness-focused programs like mindfulness, recreation, or art.
- Fostering Safety & Respect: Help keep the space clean, calm, and welcoming, while modeling respectful and trauma-informed interactions.
- Promoting Engagement: Encourage clients to take part in recovery-oriented routines, activities, and services.
What’s In It for You?
As a Recovery Care Volunteer, you’ll gain:
- Hands-On Learning: Experience harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, and recovery-oriented support in action.
- Meaningful Human Connection: Build trust and relationships with individuals who are often isolated or stigmatized.
- Growth Through Service: Sharpen your empathy, communication, and boundary-setting skills while making a tangible impact.
